Woodland Wreaths and Baskets

  • String
  • Scissors

Ancient peoples have traditionally woven baskets from the resources in their immediate surroundings. Take a walk in the woods and see what you can create. Grape vines and honeysuckle make great wreaths for decoration, or they can be use relatively easily to tie together basket materials. Wrap the vines in a circular pattern and tie with string to create a wreath. Decorate with dried flowers for a keepsake.

Many cultures have used pine needles by bunching them in pencil-sized groups and tying with string or other pine needles. By stuffing the ends together and tying tightly, pine needles become a strong basket-making material. Wrap in a circular pattern, and tie with string every few inches. Before you know it, you'll have a naturally created basket for storing treasures!
